Barton Creek: four courses, a resort and a gated community

October 9, 2026Bailey Kemps Nelson Group

Barton Creek pairs a resort and a private club with courses by Tom Fazio, Coore and Crenshaw and Arnold Palmer, and hosts the PGA Tour's Good Good Championship in November 2026.

Few places in Texas put as much golf in one community as Barton Creek, where a resort and a private club share courses by Tom Fazio, Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, and Arnold Palmer. In November 2026 it also brings the PGA Tour back to Austin.

A resort and a club

Barton Creek Country Club dates to the mid-1980s, and the resort opened in September 1987. Omni acquired the property from KSL in 2013, and a renovation and expansion of more than $150 million was completed in spring 2019, per Community Impact.

The courses

  • Fazio Foothills (1986) was Tom Fazio’s first course in Texas: par 72 through limestone, waterfalls and elevation changes.
  • Fazio Canyons (1999) sits a short drive from the main resort along Short Springs Branch, with box-canyon holes. It reopened in October 2022 after a $5 million renovation of tees, bunkers, greens and irrigation, per Golf Course Architecture.
  • Coore Crenshaw Cliffside (1991) is the Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw design, later updated with Champion bermuda greens, rebuilt bunkers and an added set of tees.
  • Palmer Lakeside (1986), an Arnold Palmer design, sits on a hilltop above Lake Travis, well away from the main resort.

The PGA Tour returns

The Good Good Championship, a new FedExCup Fall event, is scheduled for November 9 to 15, 2026 on Fazio Canyons with a 120-player field. It is the Tour’s first stop in Austin since 2023.

The community

Barton Creek is a gated community established in 1986 across roughly 4,000 acres in west Austin, with more than a dozen gated enclaves of custom homes along the hills and greenbelts. Parts of the community are in Eanes ISD and parts in Austin ISD. For the numbers, see our Austin market report and the 78735 and 78746 ZIP reports.
