A private club at Steiner Ranch that is also home to UT's golf teams, the University of Texas Golf Club plays a Bechtol Russell course with holes above Lake Austin.
The University of Texas Golf Club is a private club on more than 200 acres at Steiner Ranch, off RR 620 in northwest Austin. It is also the home course of the Longhorns’ men’s and women’s golf teams, which practice at a dedicated facility next to the first hole.
The course
Roy Bechtol and Randy Russell designed the par-71 course with input from former UT golfers, and play began in November 2003. Three holes overlook Lake Austin, per Four Points News.
A club that kept adding
The club was founded by UT alumnus Mike A. Myers. Its facilities grew steadily over two decades:
- The UT Golf Academy opened in 2005.
- The clubhouse was rebuilt and reopened in late 2008, after a fire in December 2007.
- Tennis and swimming arrived in 2012.
- The Spieth Lower 40 short course opened in 2017.
- Pickleball and the Hannon Academy were added in 2019.
As of 2023 the club had about 475 local golf members plus tennis, social and regional categories, with a golf waitlist. Fees are not published.
