River Place Country Club in northwest Austin plays Tom Kite's first course design, benched into steep canyon terrain, and is mid-way through a major clubhouse renovation.
River Place Country Club sits on some of the most dramatic terrain in Austin. It was Tom Kite’s first course design, built with Roy Bechtol on a rugged site where tees and greens are benched into the slopes and held up by stacked limestone walls, per Tom Kite Design.
The course
The par-71 course climbs and falls through steep canyons, with elevated tees and long views across the Hill Country. Two practice facilities support the course. In 2014 a $750,000 project advised by Kite and Bechtol converted all of the greens to TifEagle, enlarged them and rebuilt the bunkers.
Arcis Golf has owned the club since April 2019, when it acquired Dominion Golf Group’s Austin clubs.
A clubhouse in transformation
In June 2026 the club completed the first phase of a major renovation: a two-story wellness hub with Pilates and yoga studios, a recovery suite, sauna and cold therapy, plus a redesigned bar. The second phase, planned for fall 2026, adds a new arrival area, a family restaurant, a great hall and member workspaces.
The club also has a pool, lighted tennis courts, pickleball and childcare. Membership categories include golf, racquet, social and fitness, with reciprocal access across Arcis clubs. Fees are not published.
The neighborhood
The River Place neighborhood has more than 1,100 homes overlooking canyonland and creeks, with nature trails, preserves and a private marina, per Community Impact. It is served by Leander ISD.
