Member-owned since 1985, Great Hills Country Club in northwest Austin is redesigning its course with Chet Williams as part of a $22.3 million master plan reopening in 2027.
Great Hills Country Club in northwest Austin was founded in 1973 and has been member-owned since 1985. It is in the middle of the biggest change in its history: a $22.3 million master plan that includes a full course redesign by architect Chet Williams.
The master plan
Announced in May 2025, the plan covers:
- A full course redesign, including signature holes and new irrigation designed to use 25 to 30 percent less water
- Bunker work and an expanded short-game area
- Covered range bays with ball-tracking technology
- A café, family dining and a children’s play area in the clubhouse
- New pickleball courts and expanded tennis
Course work began in October 2025, with part of the course kept open during the first phase, and the full course is scheduled to reopen in spring 2027.
The club
Today the club offers lighted tennis courts, a pool with heated lap lanes, a splash pad and slide, a fitness center with classes, and dining, per the club. In 2018 it undertook a $12 million clubhouse and recreation building project. The club does not publish membership categories or fees.
The neighborhood
The course is the centerpiece of the Great Hills neighborhood in the 78759 ZIP code, where homes from the 1980s, many on generous lots, border the fairways. School assignments in the area vary by address, so check the district boundary for a specific home.
